SIGHTS

The Old Mineral Baths (1865-66) situated nest to Main Pump-room, are on of the most characteristic buildings in Krynica. You can taste here water from different springs. Moreover there is a concert hall and a hothouse inside. Opposite there is an old neoreneissance Spa House form the year 1889 with a pump-room of “Mieczysław “water.

PUMP - ROOMS
Main pump-room: situated in the city center by the pedestrian zone. Health resort visitors could use from 1971. The total area equals 4540m2.

Mieczysław pump-room: in the old Spa House - you can drink water only from Mieczysław spring.

Jan pump-room: situated on the area of Zdrojowy Park, at the foot of the Parkowa Mountain. It was built in 1933 and “serves” water from two springs. “Joseph” was originally called “Dudzik 1” form the surname of the spring’s owner.  It was bought by Management Board in 1880 and got a new name “Joseph” in honor of doctor Joseph Merunowicz. The name “Jan” is related to a person, who used to bring water for the health resort visitors taking peat treatments. The spring is located, where a Small  Pump-room was built.  Mineral sorrels are also used for treatment.

Słotwianka Pump-room: on the area of Słotwiński Park. It is open only in the summer time.

MINERAL WATERS IN KRYNICA ZDRÓJ

Krynica Zdrój has 23 mineral water intakes and 18 boreholes. The mineral waters come from rainfalls, which get deep in rock’s crack. Further on it gets saturated with CO2. A light carbon acid, which is chemically aggressive, is created. The productivity of the springs depends on amount of rainfalls. It is a bit different with “Zuber”, which I found at 750-950m below sea level in four boreholes. It is very strongly mineralized, has a big amount of ion Na+. Waters with similar content is found in the near of petroleum’s deposits. In Krynica Zdrój a lot of illnesses are cured.

MOFETY

These are natural fumes of CO2. While drought some of the springs dry out and become mofets. It means that CO2 can be independently from water. If gas doesn’t escape into water, they are very difficult to observe. Carbon dioxide is heavier than air and accumulates near ground. It causes that small animals, insects, birds etc. die.

SALINE CAVES

They are built entirely of mineral salts – coming from Black Sea, Red Sea and Dead Sea. Walls are made of saline bricks. From the ceiling overhang stalactites and on the floor you can observe saline crystals. The caves’ equipment and the surrounding make a pleasure atmosphere, which influents your mood positively. Quite, relaxing music acts calming on organism and let you get rid of tiredness. The microclimate of the cave is specific. The temperature stays between 18-23 Celsius degrees. Humidity equals 40-60% and ionization is always minus. It turns out that people with thyroid disorders should not make use of the caves.
